Best Hiking Trails in Zimbabwe


Victoria Falls comes first to mind when thinking of the natural landscapes of Zimbabwe, but there are mountains to explore in the eastern part of the country. The main areas for hiking include Chimanimani National Park, Bvumba (Vumba) Mountains, Nyanga National Park and Chizarira National Park. The best months to hike in Zimbabwe are April to October. March; November: Could be ok
December – February: Rainy season

Climate: Temperate climate – long dry season; due to the higher elevation, stays fairly cool.  Eastern part of the country receives heaviest rainfall.

The main areas to hike are in the eastern part of the country, on the border with Mozambique. Many of the national parks in Zimbabwe (as in other African countries) are known for wildlife viewing, not for hiking. The three main areas in the Eastern Highlands are Nyanga NP, Bvumba Mountains, Chimanimani NP. Highest Mountain: Mount Nyangani (2592 m), in Nyanga NP.
