Overview

Solomon Islands are a string of islands located just south of the islands off Papua New Guinea and north of Vanuatu and are off the tourist track. The Solomon Islands are mountainous and offer some hiking to add to water-based activities. Approximately 1000 islands make up the Solomon Islands archipelago, but the six major ones are Guadalcanal (largest, containing the capital), Choisuel, Malaita, Makira, New Georgia and Santa Isabel. Some of the popular hikes include Mount Popomanaseu, Mataniko Falls and Tenaru Falls on Guadalcanal; Kolombangara volcano on the island of Kolombangara, and the multi-day trek to Mount Mariu on Nggatokae.
