São Tomé & Príncipe is a very small two-island African nation that sits in the Gulf of Guinea. It was once colonized by Portugal and has lush, mountainous landscapes to explore. São Tomé is the larger of the two islands and contains Obo Natural Park, which covers a large part of the island and contains the nation’s highest peak, Pico de São Tomé. Oct – May: Wet season
Climate: Tropical – hot and humid throughout the year, but abundant rains during the rainy season.  The difference between the wet and dry seasons is quite pronounced.  Temperatures don’t seem to get too high.

Medium – While there is one informative guidebook available, it is definitely advisable to take a guide as not all trails are well marked.  Also much of the mountainous hikes involve rainforest and difficult to do without a guide.
