Namibia is a southwestern African country, known for the Namib and Kalahari deserts.  The country has mountains amongst the vast, arid landscape, some areas more amenable to hiking than others.

When To Hike in Namibia?

April – October: Coolest period of the year (with June – August being the coolest)
November – March: Hot months, can hike but have to be very careful about the heat

Climate: Arid; winters are warmer and what little rain falls, falls during this time.  The main reason for the recommended months of April – October is these are the cooler months (November – March are hotter months).

Top Places to Hike in Namibia

There are mountain ranges scattered throughout the country. The map highlights some of the main areas for hiking. There are mountains in the northern part of the country (particularly along the border with Angola) but no information on hiking there. There are private reserves and farms that offer hiking on their property, but need to go with a guide. Highest Mountain: Königstein (2573 m), point on Brandberg Mountain.
