Overview

Martinique is a French Overseas Territory and is part of the French Antilles islands, also known as the Leeward Islands. There are mountain ranges here including Mont Pelée and Pitons du Carbet Range, with numerous hiking trails to explore, making Martinique one of the best Caribbean islands for hiking.  Some of the popular hikes are Mont Pelée (four different trails to the peak), Piton Lacroix, Trace des Caps, and Grande Riviere to Anse Levrier. Parc Natural Régional de la Martinique covers a large part of the island. The two main areas for hiking are Mont Pelée in the north and the Carbet range. There are over 180 km of hiking trails on this island but difficult to find info on the mountainous hikes (there’s info on coastal or waterfall hikes).
