Overview

Corsica is known as the ‘granite isle’ which doesn’t adequately capture its stunning beauty. Belonging to France, this mountainous island sits in the Mediterranean and has hundreds of km of hiking trails to explore, including the world-famous GR20.  Corsica has numerous other long distance hiking trails, including the beautiful Mare a Mare (Sea to Sea) trails and Mare e Monti (Sea and Mountain) trails, among others.  There are plenty of day hikes to choose from, including in the stunning Restonica and Spelunca gorges. May-Sept: (July/Aug is driest, but also very hot in lower altitude and more crowded; GR20 and other higher altitudes are best Jul – Sept)
April: (could be ok for lower altitudes but possibly too rainy)
Oct – Mar: (cold, snowy, rainy)
Climate: Mediterranean (cool, wet winters and hot, dry summers)

Accessibility of Hiking

Easy to Medium: There are lots of marked trails along with good maps and guidebooks, but some routes aren’t as well-marked and require solid navigational skills.  The GR20 is world-famous so there are lots of resources for hiking along this trek.

Transportation required: Public transit (especially to and from multi-day treks) but car required for many day hikes.

Most of the island is mountainous and is amenable to hiking. The island is well known for its long distance treks, such as the GR20, along with the Mare e Monti and Mare e Mare treks.
