Best Hiking Trails in Cambodia

Overview

Known for its magnificent temples, Cambodia is a Southeast Asian country that has mountainous areas but trekking is in its infancy here. The main areas for mountain hiking are the Cardamom Mountains in the southwest and Virachey National Park in the northeast.  The best months for hiking in Cambodia are November to April.  Read on for more information on where and when to go hiking in Cambodia.

May – October: Rainy; monsoons

Climate: Tropical for much of the country (wet and dry seasons); subtropical in the north.  Affected by monsoons and typhoons. Temperatures coolest in the winter but still warm. 

Accessibility of Hiking

Medium: There are some established hiking trails, but it is advisable to go with a guide as in general, trails aren’t marked.  Some areas are either too impenetrable to trek and others have been developed too much.

Transportation required: Most trails need to be accessed with a vehicle
